Guide Specifications
Designed with strong coastal winds in mind—such as those encountered when targeting rockfish like Hirasuzuki—this rod emphasizes a sharper, more responsive casting feel through meticulous weight reduction. To fully harness the performance of its all-40T carbon blank, the tip section is equipped with lightweight Torzite rings set in titanium frames. For the top guide, an SiC ring is deliberately chosen to resist damage from contact with rocks and other obstacles.
To optimize performance and reduce line slap and resistance when using PE line in size #4, a stainless steel Ocean Guide is used for the butt guide.
Furthermore, to ensure guide strength when bushwhacking or casting lures up to 100g, the rod features an all double-foot guide construction.
The stainless steel guides (PMNSG) feature under-wrapping to enhance both strength and flexibility.
Additionally, the tip section equipped with titanium guides (T-KWSG) is directly mounted to the blank, a design that prioritizes lightness, sharpness, and a clean casting release.
Coating Finish
To minimize line interference with the blank during casting, two sections from the front grip are coated.
In contrast, the tip section is left unpainted (unsanded finish)—matching the guide wrapping style—to prioritize sharpness and a lightweight feel.
Grip Design
While the front grip is rarely held during a fight, it’s designed with a slim profile that fits comfortably in Japanese hands, anticipating unexpected encounters with large fish. This shape allows for a firm, powerful hold.
As this is an MH-class rod, a long front grip is unnecessary, resulting in a clean, smart, and minimalist design.
The butt end features a shape that’s both easy to grip and slip-resistant, made from high-strength lightweight EVA that offers durability without adding bulk. It’s also designed to avoid catching on life jackets, ensuring smooth and comfortable handling in the field.
Blank Construction
After several rounds of refinement, we settled on a full 40T (ultra high-modulus) carbon composition.
While this material is delicate by nature, neither our development team nor I experienced any breakage during testing.
However, please exercise caution in rugged environments, such as when fishing from rocky shores.
Joint System
We’ve adopted a reverse spigot joint (based on our design philosophy) to achieve a lightweight build with a smooth, natural bend.
We recommend checking for any loosening every 30 minutes, as the centrifugal force of a long rod can cause the joint to gradually loosen.
For added security, the use of ferrule wax is also recommended.
